We saw talented, curious peers who simply didn't know where to start — not because they lacked ability, but because no structured pathway existed for beginners. To remedy that, the Exeter Genetics and Biotech Club founded the Exeter Biology Symposium: a symposium specifically for beginner researchers.
Breaking Into Biology, Together
Hosted in Spring 2027 at Exeter's historic campus, Exeter Biology Symposium creates a platform for ambitious high schoolers and middle schoolers nationwide to enter biological research and experience the rigor and exploration science research unlocks.
Open to All Levels
Whether you have never done research before or are looking to expand your experience to dry-lab research, EBS provides the perfect opportunity for rigorous accessible dry-lab research.
Dry-Lab Focus
To make biology research accessible to all students, EBS focuses on dry-lab research, which can be conducted with just a computer and internet connection.
Peer Network
Lean on a community of fellow students and experienced researchers nationwide to support and inspire you in your research.
Timeline
All dates are tentative and subject to change — register your interest to receive updates.
Student registration and interest forms open. Resource library access begins.
Students submit research abstracts for review. All registered participants are eligible to submit.
Participants receive notification of abstract acceptance and presentation format assignment.
Symposium Day, in-person at Phillips Exeter Academy and online.
Who Is EBS For?
Whether you are a student researcher looking to gain experience, a school hoping to provide research opportunities, or a volunteer looking to give back to the next generation, EBS is for you.
Student Researchers
EBS, under the leadership of the Exeter Genetics and Biotech Club, provides an accessible platform for students of all levels to engage in rigorous dry-lab research and scientific communication.
Explore ResourcesSchools
EBS is designed to help schools provide research opportunities to their students, regardless of the school's location or resources, with support from Phillips Exeter Academy students and faculty and our volunteer network.
Partner with usVolunteers
EBS is looking for researchers at different stages of their careers to guest speak, judge, or review resources for the next generation of student researchers.

It is difficult for high school and middle school students to enter biological research Traditional programs often require prior experience or lab access Dry-lab research is just as rigorous and accessible without a laboratory Scientific communication is a skill learned through practice and community Connecting with professionals opens doors for future research opportunities
